North Park is the new black in San Diego’s nightlife and arts scene. Over the past few years, dollar stores and thrift shops have turned into happening boutiques, salons, galleries, cafes, restaurants, wine and beer bars, and nightclubs. But the neighborhood’s longtime eclectic flavor prevails, from the pockets of historic Craftsman and Spanish Revival homes to the mishmash of interesting locals. The intersection of 30th and University Avenue remains the heart of North Park, while the Main Street organization (a private nonprofit charged with revitalizing the business district) keeps the area on its upward trajectory.
